Jennifer Lawrence is looking forward to learning some archery for her role in Hunger Games.

The Oscar-nominated Winter’s Bone actress is set to play feisty teen Katniss Everdeen in the big-screen adaptation, and will have to brush up on her skills to portray the keen hunter and archer.

“I don’t think a particular scene made me excited to play Katniss, the entire book made me want that. That being said, I’ve never shot a bow and arrow, so that’ll be cool,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

Jennifer plans to channel sci-fi heroine Ripley from Ridley Scott’s Alien movies for Katniss’ fighting spirit.

“Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley in Alien is the first that comes to mind,” she added.

While she is excited about filming, the 20-year-old, who features in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class as shape-shifting mutant Mystique, admitted to feeling some pressure to do Suzanne Collins’ best-selling book justice.

“I couldn’t be happier about being a part of Hunger Games and to play Katniss. I have a huge responsibility to the fans of this incredible book and I don’t take it lightly,” she previously said in a statement.

“I will give everything I have to these movies and to this role to make it worthy of Suzanne Collins’ masterpiece.”

Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross and adapted by Suzanne herself, is set to be released in 2012.

The director said: “I absolutely cast the right person for the role. It was the easiest casting decision I ever made in my life.”
